Bare Privacy Policy

Bare does not collect your data. There is no account, no server, and no analytics. Your photos and results stay on your iPhone.

Bare is published by Austin Beck Technologies LLC ("Beck Tech," "we," "us," or "our"). This policy covers the Bare iPhone app specifically. For our other apps and this website, see the general privacy policy.

What Bare Stores, and Where

When you take a scan, Bare saves two things inside its own app container on your device:

  • The photo you captured, as a JPEG file.
  • The scores calculated from it, plus your routine and product list, in a local file.

Nothing is uploaded. Bare has no backend service to upload it to.

Face Data

Bare performs face detection, never face recognition. It does not create a faceprint or biometric template, cannot identify who you are, and never compares your face against any other person's. Face data is never transmitted off your device, and is never shared with anyone.

What is collected. When you take a scan, Bare uses Apple's on-device Vision framework to locate a face in the camera frame. Two things are derived from it:

  • The photograph you captured, saved as a JPEG.
  • The approximate center position of each eye, stored as two coordinates. These are used only to line your scans up with each other so a comparison over time is meaningful.

Bare also computes five appearance scores (clarity, tone, texture, balance and under-eye) from the pixels of the photo. While the camera is open, a face rectangle is detected many times a second purely to show framing guidance on screen; that information is discarded immediately and is never written to disk.

How it is used. Solely to produce your scan results and to align your scans with one another inside the app. It is not used for advertising, profiling, identification, authentication, training any model, or any purpose other than showing you your own results.

Sharing. None. Face data is not shared with, sold to, or disclosed to any third party, service provider, analytics platform or advertiser. Bare contains no third-party SDKs and makes no network requests.

Storage. On your iPhone only, inside the app's private sandbox container, protected by iOS file-level encryption. There is no Bare account, no Bare server, and no cloud backup operated by us. Nothing is uploaded, because there is nowhere for it to go.

Retention. Your scans are kept on your device for as long as you choose to keep them, so that you can compare results over time. Bare applies no separate retention period because it never holds a copy of your data.

Deletion. Settings → Delete all scans permanently removes every photograph, eye coordinate and score from your device. Individual scans can also be deleted one at a time. Deleting the app removes all of it. Because nothing is stored anywhere else, deleting it on your device deletes it everywhere.

How Your Photos Are Analyzed

All analysis runs on your iPhone using Apple's on-device Vision framework and local image processing. Your photos are never transmitted to us or to any third party for analysis.

Camera

Bare asks for camera access solely to take your scans. Photos are not added to your camera roll unless you export them yourself.

Notifications

If you enable reminders, they are scheduled locally by iOS. No push server is involved and no device token is sent anywhere.

Sharing

If you tap "Share progress," Bare renders an image on your device and hands it to the iOS share sheet. What happens next is entirely your choice — Bare does not send it anywhere on its own, and does not know where you sent it.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple. Bare never sees your payment details. Apple's own privacy policy governs that transaction, and Bare only receives whether an active subscription exists.

For information on how Apple handles your data, please review Apple's Privacy Policy .

Deleting Your Data

Settings → Delete all scans removes every photo and score permanently. Because nothing is stored off-device, deleting in the app deletes everywhere. Removing the app also removes all of its data.

Children's Privacy

Bare is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. Since Bare collects no information at all, this is a matter of intended audience rather than data handling.

Medical Disclaimer

Bare tracks the visible appearance of your skin over time. It is not a medical device, it does not diagnose or treat any condition, and its scores are not clinical measurements. Speak to a qualified dermatologist about anything that concerns you.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
